The UK’s best property search engines and websites

Rightmove.co.uk

Rightmove is the auto trader of the property market. It has more properties than anyone else and is the biggest Uk property search engine. The search and functionality is straightforward and easy to use. The only criticism is that it it doesn’t have all uk property for sale and is weak in London. Rightmove is owned by some large estate agents so you will find that other big estate agency groups do not always like to advertise on a website owned by a competitive estate agency. Average daily property for sale is around 500,000.

Findaproperty.com

Findaproperty is a quirky but very effective property search engine. It looks old fashioned but has some excellent features and functionality. The search by area in London for example is very good. The main problem with findaproperty is that virtually all of the properties listed are located in London and the South East. However the site is now owned by the same people as the Daily Mail, so expect it to grow soon. Average daily property for sale is 160,000- mainly London/SE.

Propertyfinder.com

Propertyfinder has undergone a lot of changes. First it was assertahome.com, then propertyfinder and now it is owned by Rupert Murdoch and an Australian real estate company. It is a good looking, slick site that has more and more adverts on it. Propertyfinder also powers the property search on large websites like Yahoo, Orange.co.uk and The Timesonline to name but a few. It is also good for finding out property for sale in Australia and New Zealand. Average daily property for sale = 200,000

National Association of Estate Agents

The National association of estate agents (NAEA) is the UK’s leading professional body for estate agency personnel, representing the interests of approximately 10,000 members. All members sign up to a code of conduct that they are expected to ahere to. This therefore gives the public reassurance that they are dealing with an estate agent with integrity. The website search is not the most comprehensive as it only has member agents property listings, but it functions well. If you are looking to sell a home you can check the agents are registered first and that may help give you peace of mind. Average daily property for sale not known – at least 100,000.

Fish4Homes.co.uk

Fish4homes is owned by 4 x regional newspaper groups. They account for about 70% of all UK regional newspapers. The properties on the site are typically the same as your local newspaper website (as fish4homes power the property search) ie all the “this is” websites eg www,thisisplymouth.co.uk. However despite a good number of properties the site can sometimes be out of date and lack photos. Worth a look for the volumes of property. Average daily property for sale is 300,000.
